Hundreds of kids will receive bikes this Christmas thanks to generous donors and volunteers taking part in a 24-hour bike-repair marathon conducted by the WRENCH — Winnipeg Repair, Education and Cycling Hub.
From noon, Saturday December 6 to noon, Sunday December 7, the Orioles Community Centre at 448 Burnell Street will be transformed into a magic workshop where salvaged and donated used bikes will be turned into holiday dreams come true. Last year, the Cycle of Giving provided 300 kids with their very own bikes.
The WRENCH accepts donations of used bikes and rescues bikes from the Brady Road landfill. Last year around 900 were refurbished or used for parts. The refurbished bikes are then sent to community organizations working with refugees and youth in need.
The WRENCH will gladly accept volunteer help or donations of money or refreshments for all the hard-working volunteers. Find out how you can help.
