For 60 summers, the dome of the Rainbow Stage in Kildonan Park has rung to the enthusiastic applause of thousands of theatre goers. This iconic open-air theatre seats over 2,500 and has become a mainstay of Winnipeg’s musical theatre community.
For six decades Rainbow Stage has been making musical theatre magic in its gorgeous outdoor setting, creating cherished memories that span generations of theatre goers.
Bigger and Better than Ever
Rainbow Stage is celebrating its diamond anniversary by extending the season from two to three presentations and taking some artistic risks. In June it presented a lesser-known show, A Shorter Walk with Patsy Cline, and the July show running July 3-17 is the infamous multiple award-winning show The Producers, based Mel Brooks’ 1967 movie. Both shows have seen good attendance and reviews. Check out what the CBC says about The Producers.
For those who find the political incorrectness of The Producers distasteful, the third presentation of the season running August 13-29 is a return to Rainbow Stage’s more typical family-friendly fate with The Little Mermaid. You’ll find ticket information here.
Keeping Up the Momentum
Rather than easing into its senior citizen years, Rainbow Stage intends to keep up the pace and has already announced a three-show season for 2015 with presentations that are sure to be audience favourites: West Side Story, Les Miserables and Sister Act.
