Today, from coast to coast to coast, we celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding achievements of the Indigenous peoples of Canada including First Nations, Inuit, and Metis that make our country and our communities — and our credit union – richer places to live and work.
In celebrating this day each year on summer solstice, we also affirm the importance of acknowledging the truth of our collective history and working toward reconciliation, an opportunity that Assiniboine Credit Union welcomed last year.
This includes looking for ways to create financial empowerment and economic development opportunities for Indigenous peoples and organizations, investing in projects that will create important opportunities for the Indigenous community, and sponsoring events that are important to the Indigenous community. This also includes partnering with community organizations and educational institutions to provide Indigenous peoples with training and employment opportunities, while also building awareness and deepening our understanding of reconciliation at Assiniboine Credit Union.
Yesterday, Assiniboine Credit Union joined with more than 80 other organizations in signing Winnipeg’s Indigenous Accord in what was a humbling and inspiring event at the Oodena Celebration Circle at the Forks. When we can join with others in a collective commitment, our impact grows exponentially.
We have a long journey ahead of us in this country and in our communities to rebuild healthy and respectful relationships with all our relations. Assiniboine Credit Union is committed to doing our part in that journey.
