MAWA is turning 30 and rather than lamenting its first metaphoric grey hairs, the organization will celebrate its milestone birthday at their annual “Over the Top” fundraiser on Sunday, March 16.
MAWA — Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art — was founded by women artists concerned that, while there are more women graduating from art school than men, the women seemed to disappear from the scene. MAWA fosters art through mentorship to pass information, experience and confidence down from one generation of women artists to another.
With the support of Sustainable Community Grants from Assiniboine, MAWA has reached out to craftswomen who are new to Canada to teach workshops. These “Crafternoon” workshops provide an informal venue to build intercultural connections, understanding and skills.
“Over the Top” is MAWA’s major annual fundraising art auction event and brings together hundreds of artists, art collectors, and cupcake enthusiasts. The sugar-fueled auction features amazing artwork from over 100 artists, stellar raffle baskets and lots of fun! Join us and discover artwork by over 100 of Canada’s hottest artists. Bidding opens on Friday, March 14 and all proceeds go toward MAWA programming.
