The start of the new year always brings new opportunity, and as I’ve just completed my first weeks at Assiniboine, I’m feeling privileged and grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Assiniboine family. It’s been a warm welcome and I’ve been made to feel very much at home.
Among other things, I’ve already had the opportunity to meet many employees in our broad network, listen to a few member calls at the Member Communication Centre, and meet with some of our social enterprise and business members. I’ve had a whirlwind tour of our Winnipeg branches and plan to visit the northern branches once time and weather permit.
I’d be remiss if my first message to members and the community didn’t acknowledge and thank Al Morin, ACU’s former President and CEO, for his tremendous leadership over the years — and for the legacy he leaves. I’ve known Al for some time, and in the nearly 40 years he was part of the Manitoba credit union system, it was apparent he was very well respected not only locally, but provincially and nationally. Al’s most recent accomplishment (aside from retiring) was being named recipient of the Credit Union Central of Manitoba Order of Merit for Lifetime Achievement.
Al’s a hard act to follow, but I commit to carrying on the vision and mission of this wonderful organization and look forward to building on ACU’s many and varied successes. I thank the Board of Directors for the confidence it has shown in offering me this opportunity.
