Clara Hughes Takes a Big Ride to Winnipeg

Clara Hughes Big RideClara Hughes is one of Winnipeg’s most famous athletes. You may know that this amazing six-time Olympic cycling and speed-skating medalist is the only Canadian to have won medals in both the summer and winter Olympics. But did you know that she has also battled depression?

To raise awareness and action in mental health and help end the stigma around mental illness, Hughes kicked off “Clara’s Big Ride” in Toronto in March. On her national bicycle tour through every province and territory she will invite people in communities large and small into the mental health conversation and share her own story of mental health challenges.

Cycling an average 150 kilometres each day, Clara’s 110 day, 12,000 km journey will end on Canada Day in Ottawa.
