It’s no secret that Assiniboine Credit Union is committed to giving back to the community. And it’s no surprise that its employees share this commitment.
Every year, employees are provided with opportunities to volunteer and fundraise for various organizations. Our biggest fundraiser is our annual United Way campaign which is organized and executed entirely by our dedicated employees.
Asset Building Programs
The United Way of Winnipeg provides funding for a number of programs and strategies delivered through a network of over 100 agency partners. One type of program that is close to our hearts here at ACU are Asset Building Programs (ABP), which help participants achieve financial stability by providing them with the knowledge, skills, and supports they need to acquire needed assets and plan for the future. Thanks to a unique partnership developed in 2007, ACU’s employees are able to dedicate all or a portion of their United Way donations directly towards ABP in Winnipeg.
As one of the co-chairs for this years’ campaign, I could not be more proud to say that my co-workers were able to raise over $80,000 for Asset Building Programs in Winnipeg, and that we achieved an employee participation rate of 75%. According to the United Way, the average participation for major workplace campaigns in Winnipeg is 21.2% — so these are amazing numbers!
Creative Ways to Raise Funds
Although numbers are great and show just how generous ACU staff can be — what I like best about the campaign is seeing all the creative ways everyone contributes. From a 50/50 draw, to a cutest pet photo contest and the perennial favourite “Time, Talent, Treasure” auction where employees bid on items or services donated by their peers, there are so many ways that we all get involved and have fun too!
